Welcome

I’m Arran Agyeman-Ellis, a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor and Holistic Life and Relationship Coach based in Brighton & Hove, and registered member of the BACP and BAATN (Black, African and Asian Therapy Network). I run my private practice offering both face-to-face sessions in Hove and counselling and coaching sessions online. My practice is grounded in empathy and understanding, with a commitment to creating a safe, non-judgemental space where you can feel truly heard and supported. I believe that the therapeutic relationship has the power to bring about meaningful change. My aim is to foster a relationship based on a good rapport, trust, non-judgement, understanding and acceptance, giving you the freedom to explore and grow.

I initially embarked on my own journey of self-discovery, which led me to the path of counselling and coaching. Along the way, I found that I had a genuine ability to support others in exploring their own lives and uncovering the possibilities within themselves. It’s a privilege to be a part of this journey with my clients, to walk alongside them as they work through challenges and create change in their lives.

In the words of Lao Tzu, "A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step." The fact that you are considering counselling means you have already taken that courageous first step toward creating meaningful change. This step is often the hardest, and I am here to offer a safe, non-judgmental space where you can explore whatever you need, at a pace that feels comfortable for you. Seeing my clients experience growth—sometimes through small, gradual shifts, and other times in transformative moments—is something I find truly fulfilling. If you're ready to take the next step, please reach out.

Counselling: A Space for You

Life can sometimes feel overwhelming—whether you’re struggling with depression, anxiety, low self-worth, grief, or relationship difficulties. You might be navigating transitions, feeling stuck, or unsure about who you are and where you’re going. Perhaps you’re exploring your sense of identity—personally, culturally, or as a neurodiverse individual. Living with experiences such as ADHD, autism, dyslexia, or dyspraxia can come with unique challenges, including managing focus, handling sensory overload, or navigating social interactions.

Counselling offers a safe, confidential, non-judgemental space where you can begin to talk openly about what’s on your mind, without fear of judgment. You don’t have to have all the answers or know where to begin—that’s what we can explore together. My role is to listen, and be alongside you as we talk about, explore and make sense of the difficulties you are currently facing. Counselling provides a space where you can begin to explore these feelings and experiences, helping you better understand yourself and the challenges you face.

Through counselling, you can start to see how past experiences might be shaping your present, look at unhelpful/unhealthy patterns that may be holding you back, and develop tools to cope with life’s difficulties. It’s about more than just understanding—it’s about creating space for change. Whether it’s addressing the impact of stress, trauma, improving relationships, or gaining a deeper sense of self, counselling can open the door to a more fulfilling way of living. At the heart of counselling is the therapeutic relationship—a space built on trust, bond, rapport, understanding, and connection. This relationship is key to helping you feel truly heard and supported.  It’s a space to reflect, grow, and explore ways to bring about constructive change in your life. As a humanistic integrative counsellor, I believe in creating a space that is personalised to each individual. Everyone’s experiences are unique, and my approach reflects that. I draw from a range of humanistic approaches like for example:- Person-Centred, Existential, Gestalt, and Transpersonal Therapy.

Working integratively means I may also draw from outside of the humanistic approaches including psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis and sometimes Coaching depending on what feels most helpful for you. What I draw and take insight from greatly depends on what you bring to each session. When working with clients I also take a holistic perspective, looking at the mind, body, and emotional elements together, recognising the interconnectedness of these aspects in your overall experience and growth.

Frequently asked questions

What is counselling?

It is a safe, confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings and experiences without judgement. It is not about fixing you or finding solutions instead it's about exploring whats going on in your life, helping you make sense of things and finding a way to create constructive change in your life. I work as an intergrative counsellor which means I draw from a range of therapeutic approaches, what I draw from depends on what you bring to each session.

Who can benefit from counselling?

Counselling can be helpful for anyone who wants to feel more grounded, present, clear, or, connected to themselves. Whether you're going through a difficult time, feeling stuck, or just want a space to talk, reflect and make sense of things.

How long does a typical session last?

Sessions are 50 mins long.

How many sessions will I need?

That really depends on you. There is no set number, some people come for a handful of sessions, others stay more long-term. We will have regular reviews check-ins as we can go to make sure counselling works for you.

Do you give advice?

Not in the way you might get advice from a friend or family member. I won't tell you what to do but I'll be alongside you and support you in understanding yourself better, exploring your options, and making choices that feel right for you.

What if I need to cancel or go on holiday?

That's completely okay. If you know in advance that you'll need to miss a session because of sickness, a booked holiday/event or an emergency just let me know as much with as much notice as you can. I usually ask for 48 hours' notice where possible, just so I can manage my diary and offer space to someone else if needed. But I understand things happen in life, we will always work together around it.

I saw that you're also a coach do you offer coaching too?

Yes, I do, but I offer coaching as a separate service. Coaching is more goal focused and action orientated. I offer holistic life and relationship coaching and work with people around dating, relationships, confidence, and building a life that is more aligned. Counselling is a bit different, it's more about exploring what's going on beneath the surface, understanding your emotions, and making sense of your experiences. If it ever feels helpful, I might gently draw from coaching but only if it naturally fits with the work we are doing together.

Is everything I say confidential?

Yes, what you share stays between us. The only exception is if I am ever concerned about a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, then I may have break confidentiality. In those cases I have a duty of care and would always try to speak with you first before taking any action.

How do I get in touch with you?

You can get in touch via email, phone, booking a discovery call which will take you to the typeform or through my webiste contact form.

I have never had counselling before, what should I expect?

That's completely okay. Our first session is a chance to get know each other, talk about what's going on for you, and see if working together feels right. You don't need to prepare or know what to say, just come as you are.

I have a diploma in counselling and a diploma in holistic life coaching. Even though I may sometimes draw from elements from coaching when counselling, I do however like to keep counselling and coaching separate as they service different purposes. My coaching service is more focused, goal oriented service, helping clients work through specific relationship, confidence, and life challenges with clear steps and direction.
I have experience working with individuals who have autistic spectrum conditions, learning difficulties, and learning disabilities in residential home settings.

I’m also committed to my own growth and learning because I believe it’s important to keep developing as a person and as a professional.
